Going Bovine

Finally able to get back into reading my book. Just finished with Chapter 11 in which Cameron is diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. While there is a variant of CJD that is called mad cow disease, CJD can be inherited, or it can show for the first time in a person known as sporadic CJD. There are several other ways that CJD could be contracted/transmitted, but these were the ones that came to mind. Genetic testing can be done to find if it is a mutated gene, but for the story, it makes it more interesting to think that he ate contaminated beef, doesn't it?

It is interesting to see how the parents are involved and concerned with Cameron now. Before his diagnosis, he and his parents were wrapped up in their things, taking for granted that each would always be there. Now that his prognosis is death, the parents are attentive. So much so that his dad wants them to build a fire and roast marshmallows. (I hope Cameron doesn't wig out again when he sees the fire).

That's all for now. Back to reading...............

Thanks for posting that Jerri! I wondered throughout the entire book how he could have gotten the disease, and kept waiting to find out. I like to think Buddha Burger is responsible myself ;)
